A.I.D.S. RESPONSE

The AIDS Response Team is a team of people at Oasis with a passion for those affected by AIDS.  Our purpose is to teach the Oasis family about the AIDS crisis, what we can do to help, and get involved.  Together, we can make a difference.

If you have any questions or comments, or are interested in becoming a part of this team, please contact Lindsay Streuber.

HIV/AIDS has become a pandemic throughout Africa, predominately affecting the poor and sick.  As Christians, God instructs us to care for those less fortunate than ourselves, and Africa is in need of help.  We can no longer ignore this crisis that affects and destroys millions of lives.

~In Matthew 25:37-40, Jesus says, “Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirty and give you something to drink?  When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you?  When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?  The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” ~

  A.I.D.S. STATISTICS

 -   40 million people are currently living with HIV; of these, 95% live in developing countries.

  -   25 million people have died as a result of AIDS since it was first identified in the 1980s.

  -   15 million children worldwide have lost one or both parents as a result of AIDS.

  -   Every day in Africa, AIDS kills 5,500 people

  -   Every hour, 43 children under age 15 die as a result of AIDS.

  -   Every minute, 8 people contract the virus that causes AIDS.

  -   If all the children who have lost parents due to AIDS held hands, they would stretch five and a half times across the

United States (or more than halfway around the globe).  By 2011, this virtual chain will reach around the world.

  -   Uganda’s HIV prevalence rate was reduced from 21% (in 1991) to 5% (in 2003), largely thanks to a community-

      based approach to prevention.

We can still make a difference!
